چکیده

This report presents Aspen. Sandia National Laboratories is developing this new agentbased macroeconomic simulation model of the U.S. economy. The model is notable because it allows a large number of individual economic agents to be modeled at a high level of detail and with a great degree of freedom. Some features of Aspen are (a) a sophisticated message-passing system that allows individual pairs of agents to communicate, (b) the use of genetic algorithms to simulate the learning of certain agents, and (c) a detailed financial sector that includes a banking system and a bond market. Results from runs of the model are also presented. Intentionally Left Blank

Two Phase Modeling of Char Combustion in a Circulating Fluidized Bed Reactor Using ASPEN PLUS

In this paper, combustion of char in the riser of circulating fluidized bed was modeled using ASPEN PLUS. Since physical and chemical phenomena are involved in the process, the model integrates the two-phase hydrodynamic sub-model with the reaction sub-model derived from the literature. In the proposed model, the fluidized bed is divided into several sections and the behavior of each section wa...

The missing link: AB models and dynamic microsimulation

In this note I pay tribute to two early works by Barbara Bergmann and Gunnar Eliasson which, though firmly grounded in the dynamic microsimulation literature, can be considered as the first examples of large-scale agent-based models. These attempts at building complete micro-to-macro computational models of the economy are important not only in a history of economic thought perspective, but als...

Combining Microsimulation with CGE and Macro Modelling for Distributional Analysis in Developing and Transition Countries

This paper overviews recent work that has attempted to bring together microsimulation, Computable General Equilibrium (CGE) and macro models to perform distributional analysis in developing and transition countries. Particular attention is paid to applications relating to aspects of economic growth and political economy. Applications in which macro, CGE and microsimulation models are either lay...

Inequality and Redistribution over the Life-Cycle in Italy: an Analysis with a Dynamic Cohort Microsimulation Model

This paper describes the main features of a dynamic cohort microsimulation model applied to Italian households, and presents the results obtained on the themes of income distribution and of the redistributive effects of the Italian welfare state over the life cycle. The model is the first of this kind developed for the Italian economy. The results are compared with those obtained for other coun...
